drawing.nu is a website for the Arcata Life Drawing Circle at StewArt Studios.
Begun in 1997, the drawing circle hosts weekly drop-in life drawing sessions featuring nude models in short poses, for artists in the Arcata and Humboldt County (California) area.

If you are going to drop in, please observe.....
- arrive early so as not to disturb the session once it has begun
- turn your cell phone off
- bring your own materials for drawing
- use materials that will not affect other artists (nothing stinky or dusty)
- be quiet
- smell good
- bring correct change
- don't bring a camera
- the drawing room does not have a waste basket - take everything you brought

- The best time is between 12 noon and 12:30 p.m. on any Friday, after the Friday morning drop-in session.
- The second best time is between 6:30 and 6:45 p.m. on any Thursday, before the Thursday evening session.
- Get on the "B" list
- Models for our weekly public sessions are generally chosen from the "A" list.
- The "A" list is a small, limited group of proven models that rotate in the weekly sessions.
- "Proven" means they have modelled for us more than once and have proven to be reliable, puctual and communicative.
- To get on the "A" list, we choose from the "B" list.
- The "B" list consists of all other currently available models and is unlimited.
- To get on the "B" list, you must do an unpaid 2 hour session** (non-public) for orientation.
*This is not so we can see what you look like (we draw all kinds). A significant number of folks just don't show up for an appointment made over the phone with a person they've not met. Our theory is that once you have found your way to the studio and met us in person, there will be more mutual trust and consideration. Not showing up - or showing up - late will get you nowhere.
**Previous modelling experience is not necessary; we can teach you everything you need to know, including "drawing room etiquette" and how to do dozens of poses in a very short time without being repetitive. The main things you need are a positive attitude, lots of energy and self-confidence.

StewART Studios are located on the ground level of the old Stewart School Office Building, on the edge of Stewart Park. It's up near Arcata High School. Enter the parking lot from "L" street between 15th and 16th. Enter building on the ground level through the doors beneath the stairs, then look for #105. Please arrive early enough to get set up before the session begins.

In August and September, 2008, nine artists in the Arcata Life Drawing Circle created this artwork for a show at Good Relations in Old Town, Eureka, a boutique for lingerie and other fun stuff. For a theme that would fit in with the exhibition venue, we chose to draw models wearing different types of lingerie. While proving to be a challenge, most artists agreed that is was a good way to shake things up a bit.
